Gout Study: Understanding Causes & Symptoms
Gout is a type of inflammatory arthritis caused by the buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints. Uric acid is a waste product formed when the body breaks down purines, substances found in certain foods and naturally produced by the body. When there’s an excess of uric acid in the blood, it can lead to the formation of sharp, needle-like crystals in the joints, most commonly in the big toe.
